OKI Electric Industry Named 2018 Thomson Reuters Top 100 Global Technology Leader

IRVING, Texas -OKI Data Americas, a world-class printing technology leader, today announced that its parent company, OKI Electric Industry, was named a top 100 global technology leader by Thomson Reuters. The inaugural program identifies the tech industry’s most operationally sound and financially successful organizations and is the first comprehensive evaluation to objectively identify organizations with a strong determination toward the future in today's complex business environment. "As a key member of the global OKI family, we are ecstatic with the company’s recognition as a 2018 Top 100 Global Technology Leader by Thomson Reuters,” said Kiyoshi Kurimoto, President and CEO, OKI Data Americas. “We recently celebrated the 45th anniversary of OKI’s entrance into the North American printer market and view this honor as a testament of the hard work and dedication to innovation and customer success we have demonstrated for decades."

The study, the industry’s first holistic assessment of today’s leading tech companies, utilizes a 28-point data-driven algorithm to objectively identify organizations with the fortitude for the future in a highly competitive global marketplace. The methodology, developed by the Thomson Reuters Boston Innovation Lab, is based on eight principle pillars of performance: financial, management and investor confidence, risk and resilience, legal compliance, innovation, people and social responsibility, environmental impact, and reputation.

Companies included in the Top 100 Global Technology Leaders outperform the Nasdaq, S&P 500 and MSCI World indices in year-over-year stock price change, and other factors including YOY R&D investment, employee percent change and revenue percent change.

OKI’s final scores across the pillars outshined over 5,000 other technology companies around the world. The company was highly regarded for its efforts in Innovation, Environmental Management and Workforce Diversity. It was one of thirteen Japanese companies to make the list.

“Tech companies operate at warp speed confronting competitive, regulatory, legal, financial, supply chain and myriad other business challenges,” said Alex Paladino, global managing director of the Thomson Reuters Technology Practice Group. “Oftentimes, their financial success overshadows operational integrity, making it difficult to identify those organizations with true fortitude for future success. With the Top 100 Global Tech Leaders, we’ve identified the unique data points that embody technology industry leadership in the 21st century; congratulations to the companies that made the list.”

Headquartered in Tokyo, Japan, OKI Electric Industry operates in over 120 countries around the world. OKI manufactured the first telephone in Japan in 1881, and now specializes not only in developing and manufacturing telecommunications equipment but also in information products and mechatronics products, such as automated teller machines (ATMs) and printers. OKI provides products to telecom carriers, financial institutions, government agencies, and large corporations as well as SMBs both directly and via distributors and dealers.
